Pupils from Ysgol Bro Sannan and Aberbargoed Primary have design a new adventure hero character to help visitors to nature reserve.

The children took part in a competition to promote the Grasslands Project in Aberbargoed.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Countryside Service has set up a nature centre at Aberbargoed Grasslands, which is home to an extremely rare butterfly called the Marsh fritillary.

The centre focuses on providing a nature facility for schools, teachers, students, biologists and the local community as well as providing a wide range of events for the public.

The winner of the competition was Joshua Jones from Aberbargoed Primary who created the character ‘Explorer Rhos’ – the action adventurer with a pet snake.

The image of Explorer Rhos can now be seen helping visitors explore Aberbargoed Grasslands.
