Police officers recovered a 25 litre drum of diesel during an operation to catch fuel thieves.
Gwent Police organised the second operation in as many months after a spate of fuel thefts in the Rhymney area.
On Friday August 12, local road police, together British Transport Police, Trading Standards and community safety wardens, set up road check points using automatic numberplate recognition technology (ANPR).
Any vehicles connected with criminal offences were stopped and searched by police.
In total, 43 people were stopped in the area and 21 intelligence logs were submitted – which will help Gwent Police target certain areas more effectively.
The result of the stops were:
- Two arrested for vehicle crime
- Three drugs searches resulting in a cannabis seizure and formal warning
- Three endorsable fixed penalty notices issued for other offences (3/6 points on license)
- One person reported for summons (Driving not in accordance to his/her insurance)
- Two drink/drive targets stopped (Provided readings below limit)
- A 25 litre drum full of diesel was also located which Police believe to be stolen
In addition to those being stopped in vehicles, four people were stopped for underage drinking in lower Rhymney
PC Ryan Hill, from Rhymney’s Neighbourhood Policing Team organised the operation.
He said: “We are extremely pleased with the results of this operation but our work will continue over the coming months. We would like to thank members of the public for their help and co-operation during this operation and for the valuable information they have given to us.
“We are urging residents to continue to contact us should they see any vehicles acting suspiciously in their local areas. Any information, no matter how small could help us with our enquiries.”
