Diabetes UK Cymru appeals for swimming fundraisers

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:11, Tuesday August 30th, 2011.

Diabetes UK Cymru is appealing for people to get their swimming goggles on and raise money for the charity.

The health charity is appealing for people to sign up for its Swim a Mile for Diabetes challenge and do a one-mile sponsored swim in their nearest pool during September.

The fundraiser is being supported by Swansea swimmer and Commonwealth medallist Jazmin Carlin, who won silver and bronze medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

She said: “I am pleased to support Diabetes UK Cymru’s Swim a Mile for Diabetes as keeping active is great way to manage diabetes whatever type you have.

“With a growing number of people now living with diabetes in Wales, I am appealing for people to show their support for those living with the condition by taking part in Swim a Mile for Diabetes.

“Your support will raise vital funds to enable Diabetes UK Cymru to provide advice, support and information to the one in 20 people now living with diabetes in Wales.”

For more information, or to register for the challenge, call Diabetes UK Cymru on 029 2066 8276 or email wales@diabetes.org.uk
