Final preparations are underway as Caerphilly town gears up towards hosting its first BBC Proms in the Park.
Caerphilly County Borough Council has said it will be the first outdoor concert ever staged in Caerphilly and is expected to attract thousands of people on September 10.
Prior to the main event, being held at the Owain Glyndwr playing fields opposite Caerphilly Castle, the council has organised ‘Fringefest’ From 12pm until 4pm, street performances and music will entertain visitors from the moment they park their car, get off the train, step off the bus or walk into town.
Also on the same day, Caerphilly Castle will be throwing its doors open for free as part of the Open Doors programme and between September 6 and September 12, Doctor Who’s Tardis will be making an appearance in the castle grounds.
BBC Proms in the Park will this be presented by One Show presenter Alex Jones and Only Men Aloud musical director Tim Rhys-Evans.
Singer Wynne Evans – also known as Gio the Go Compare opera singer – will be performing for the first time at the BBC Proms in the Park. The well-known tenor will perform the popular aria Nessun Dorma, taken from the final act of Puccini’s Turandot.
Tickaets can be bought online at www.blackwoodminersinstitute.com or by calling The Visit Caerphilly Centre on 029 1088 0011 to book over the telephone.
Tickets are just £10 per adult. Children 12 and under are free with an accompanying adult. Tickets on the night will be sold at £12.
The council's claim that this is "The first outdoor concert held at Caerphilly" is not correct, there have been others held in the castle grounds. Still, I'm sure it will be a good event and will hopefully be well attended.
