Caerphilly Labour AM Jeff Cuthbert is urging people in Caerphilly and the Rhymney Valley to sign an online petition calling for reform of Europe’s fishing policy, under which fishermen are currently throwing dead fish back into the sea.

Mr Cuthbert has signed the World Wildlife Fund’s ‘More Fish’ petition, urging the European Union to end overfishing, stop wasteful practices and protect marine wildlife.

He said: “To protect fish stocks, the fishing industry and marine wildlife we need to reform Europe’s fishing policy and end this terrible situation where fish are wasted. I hope that people in Caerphilly and the Rhymney Valley will join me in getting behind this WWF campaign by taking a minute to sign the online petition.”

Easy solution, withdraw from federal Europe and declare our own fishing limit, defended by the Royal Navy.

This is not going to happen so look forward to increasingly depleted fish stocks and absolutely crazy, E.U. imposed, rules. Forty years ago not a single part of the catch was discarded. It was used for bait, animal feed or human consumtion.

Also, my school dinner leftovers were fed to pigs and Caerffili cheese was made here using locally produced milk transported in churns. Unfortunately none of this, sustainable, activity suits the, extremely well paid, Eurocrats.

We will live in cloud Euro cuckoo land until, if or when, Germany pulls the plug on the whole silly project. I know this is not a 'politically correct' comment but I challenge the politicians to point out any inaccuracy in my 'rant.'
