Caerphilly youngsters have been given an artistic seal of approval from the Newport Gwent Dragons after painting pictures of the rugby players as part of a summer project.
The project by the local Youth Offending Service was led by Pippins Designs and focussed on developing artwork of players past and present, which will be given pride of place at the new-look Rodney Parade.
The young people, who are working with Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly Youth Offending Service (YOS), volunteered to be part of the summer project.
Cllr Judith Pritchard, cabinet member for social services said: “This excellent summer project really helped provide the young people involved with a productive way to spend their time.”
Mark Jones, head of operations at Rodney Parade, said: “The aim of the work with Pippins is to consolidate what we already believe in strongly at Rodney Parade, which is our community links.
“Our community department work closely with the local authority in providing respite schooling for young people who are at risk of exclusion from school and we realise that projects such as Pippins are crucial in ensuring that young people who experience difficulties do not slip through the cracks.
“The choice of images is important in recognising not only the players who are crucial to the Dragons, but also those players who for both the Dragons and for Newport have contributed to building the extraordinary rugby history Rodney Parade can boast.”
The artwork will go on final display on September 17 when the young artists will be guests of the rugby side in their game against Aironi.
