A 15 year-old Newbridge boy has been arrested in connection with an attack on a 56-year-old man outside a Londis shop.

The boy was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent following the assault in Treowen on Saturday February.

The attack happened after the man had challenged a youth about their abusive behaviour towards staff.

The victim was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital after sustaining multiple fractures to the face.

The 15-year-old arrested has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Any witnesses or anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
