A soldier who raped an 18-year-old girl student at a halls of residence at Glamorgan University has been jailed fr at least 11 years.

Jonathan Haynes, 30, was found guilty of six counts of rape, two of kidnap and two of attempting to kidnap following a three week trial at Bristol Crown Court on August 9.

Haynes, a Royal Logistics Corp lance corporal, who was based at Buckley Barracks, Hullavington, near Chippenham, attacked the Glamorgan student on September 26, 2009.

Bristol Crown Court was told how Haynes had abducted and raped a 16-year-old girl in Chippenham, Wiltshire, 13 days before driving to South Wales for the university attack.

He also raped another girl, 17, in Chippenham in 2010 and in February 2010, he tried to snatch two 14-year-old girls from a country lane near the Wiltshire town.

Haynes, of Northampton and who is no longer a soldier, was given an indeterminate sentence for the public’s protection at Bristol Crown Court on September 8 and ordered to serve at least 11 years in jail.

Judge Neil Ford QC described him as a “clever and cunning predator” and warned him he might never be released.
