Led by Dyfed-Powys Police, the All-Wales Anti-Mobile Phone Driving Campaign will target drivers throughout the next fortnight.
Drivers face three penalty points and a £60 fine if caught using their mobiles.
Police patrols to target mobile phone driving will increase across Welsh roads for the duration of the which runs until October 5.
John Pavett, Gwent Police Roads Policing Chief Inspector, said: “This fortnight of enforcement is part of our ongoing campaign to target drivers who still choose to risk their own lives and the lives of other road users by using a mobile phone while driving.
“Using a mobile phone behind the wheel, whether it is texting or making a call is classed as one of the “fatal five” – the five most common causes of fatal road traffic collisions.
“Even the most experienced or competent of drivers can be easily distracted. Taking your eyes off the road, or losing concentration for just a second can be extremely dangerous and have devastating consequences.
“A quick reply to a text message or answering a phone call is never worth putting yours or anyone else’s life at risk.”
Sue Storch, Chair of Road Safety Wales, added: “Road Safety Wales partners have been supporting our colleagues in the Police Service throughout this campaign by publicising the dangers of using a mobile device while driving. We will continue to raise awareness of this issue and work closely with our colleagues in future campaigns.”
