News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:00, Wednesday October 19th, 2011.

Businesses in Caerphilly now have access to funded training to develop the computer skills of their workforce.

The Digital Economy Heads of the Valleys initiative (DEHOV) is funded by the European Social Fund and delivered through the Welsh Government.

The project covers all aspects of IT training from learning about computerised accounting systems to social networking. Training packages which could be either fully or part funded.

It is offered through UHOVI (Universities Heads of the Valleys Institute), a partnership between the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales, Newport.

Kirsten Merrill Glover of DEHOV said: “DEHOV is a fantastic opportunity for employers to up-skill their workforce in a way that is specific to their individual needs and with very little cost outlay. It’s all about equipping those working in our SMEs with the skills needed to succeed in the digital age in which we must all operate.”

Employers can choose how long the training will last, where it takes place and what exactly is taught. Training is delivered locally and is either accredited by the University of Glamorgan or the University of Wales, Newport.

The project will run until August 2013.
