New recruit for Caerphilly credit union thanks to EU money

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 10:21, Wednesday November 2nd, 2011.

A credit union has become the first organisation in Caerphilly County Borough to recruit staff thanks to grant funding through the Community Economic Development Programme.

Smart Money Credit Union, based on Windsor Street, Caerphilly, has welcomed new recruit Neil Bennett as an administration assistant with the help of the programme – which aids development of social enterprises and other organisations which benefit the community.

Cllr Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration and planning said: “We are delighted to be able to help this company, and I would encourage more businesses to get in touch with the team to find out if they too could be eligible for funding support to help their organisation grow.”

Voluntary and community groups, charities, social enterprises, co-operatives and mutuals which are able to demonstrate that their project will benefit communities in Caerphilly County Borough can apply for financial support.

Andrina Davies, manager at Smart Money Credit Union, said: “I would like to say thank you for the funding, which has enabled us to employ an additional member of staff; Neil has settled in well and is keen to learn and progress with Smart Money as we expand our membership in Caerphilly.”

The Community Economic Development Programme is supported by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government.
