18-year-old killed in Risca car crash – 17-year-old driver arrested

UPDATE: Tributes paid to Risca crash victim, 18

A 17-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after the car they were driving flipped and killed a passenger.

Gwent Police was called to the crash on Commercial Street in Risca 1.37am on Sunday morning. A Suzuki car carrying six men hit a parked vehicle.

The 18-year-old front seat passenger was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital but later died. The other occupants suffered minor injuries. Two of the men remain in hospital for observation.

Commercial Street was closed by police as emergency services dealt with the crash but has now been reopened.

The family of the dead man have been informed and are being supported by police family liaison officers.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to contact them on 101.
