Tributes have been paid by the friends of a teenager who was tragically killed in a car crash in Risca on the weekend.

Eighteen-year-old Morgan Hackling, from Risca, was the front seat passenger in a Suzuki car which crashed on Commercial Street on 1.37am on Sunday morning

It is believed the car was travelling with six people when it hit a parked car and flipped over.

The driver of the car, a 17-year-old also from the Risca area, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, but has now been released on bail.

Two Facebook tribute pages have been set up where friends are leaving tributes to the teenager.

One, posting on “Rest in peace Morgan Hackling x”, said: “Many people love and miss you Morg. Just hoped you knew it when you were with us, you meant a lot to loads of us and we’ll never forget you!

“Hope you’re alright up there and ain’t causing too much trouble. Love and miss you forever.”

Kelsey Leigh Barrett, on “R.i.p Morgan Hackling”, posted: “It’s crazy to think that you’re not with us any more. It’s times like this you realise how precious life is, and that it can be taken from you within a blink of an eye. You were such an amazing person.”

Coleg Gwent has confirmed that Mr Hackling was a students at its Crosskeys campus until February this year, studying health and social care.

A spokeswoman said: “Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this extremely difficult time. We are offering counselling and support to any of our students affected by this.”
