Caerphilly Business Forum blog: Ten years old and still going from strength to strength

Caerphilly Business Forum’s 10th annual awards in association with Coleg Gwent, was a huge success. We’ll certainly have our work cut out to better it next year.

There was a real atmosphere at Llancaiach Fawr on Friday evening – and I’m not talking about the resident ghosts – but you could feel it as soon as you walked in.

The room was buzzing loudly with conversation, people were already starting to get excited and I think that – set in the context of a very tough year for businesses – people were ready to let their hair down a little and celebrate.

Just what it meant to the businesses up for awards to be mentioned in such glowing terms was clear to see once the presentations themselves got under way.

Some of the winners barely kept their emotions in check and their enthusiasm and happiness was infectious, spreading rapidly through the other guests and sponsors who genuinely appreciated the richly deserved good fortune of others.

That “feelgood factor” certainly rubs off. If anyone could bottle it, of course, they’d make a fortune. But why was it such a good night? Why did the winners feel that good? What was it all about?

Perhaps the skill of the organisers in building up anticipation played a big part. Host Jason Mohammad certainly jollied proceedings along, as accomplished a professional as ever.

But I think the biggest contribution was based on something that’s not actually that elusive – just a part of human nature. It’s quite simple; everyone likes to be told “well done” once in a while.

So, one more time: well done to everyone for making our 10th annual awards such a runaway success.
