Newbridge Memo funding
What fantastic news it was for the people of Newbridge that £2.9m from the Heritage Lottery fund will go on the restoration of the town’s historic Memo and Institute.
I know the community has been working so hard to make this happen and now all the efforts have paid off. I’d like to congratulate all those behind the bid.
Caerphilly Council will do everything it can with the Welsh Assembly Government to ensure the final part of the funding needed comes from the European Union.
Everyone can now look forward to the day when this beautiful building is restored to its former glory. It cannot come quick enough.
Big Cheese and more
This year’s Big Cheese Festival provided a real winner with a record-breaking 85,000 people visiting Caerphilly. It has become a real highlight of the event scene in South Wales .
Visitors came from long distances and it proved once again an excellent event for all the family.
The focus switches to Blackwood on Friday next week at the Showfields site. Kite Night will see international kite fliers fill the sky with a fireworks display to follow and then the Bedwellty Show follows over the weekend.
Confidence motion
Despite attempts last month by opposition councillors to destabilise the council, I can assure Caerphilly Observer readers that this Plaid-led administration will do its utmost to deliver decent services for residents in what is a really tough economic climate.
I was disappointed that people played politics over the closure of the Ty Darran home in Risca.
No councillor comes into politics to make cuts and more difficult decisions will have to be made over the coming years. But I hope people remember the financial mess this country was left in by the last New Labour Government and the fact that the Tory/Liberal Democrat Coalition Government is now wielding the axe with seeming relish.

Well i would never vote and have never voted for lindsay Whittle, but from what i see that has gone on in the council that he his leader thay should never have survived the no confidence…ask yourself what has he done for you. He has said about cutbacks but this man takes home about £45k pluse per year, and for what when he took this job said that he was doing it for the love of Caerphilly (Please) i think there should be a new election that would show how he will stand NO CONFIDANCE IN LINDSAY WHITTLE……
