Treharris woman prosecuted for dog fouling offence

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:59, Tuesday December 20th, 2011.

A woman from Treharris has been prosecuted by Caerphilly County Borough Council for not cleaning up after her dog.

Lisa Davies, of Cardiff Road, Treharris, was taken to court after failing to pay a fixed penalty notice issued to her for allowing her dog to foul and then failing to pick it up at Gallagher Retail Park, Crossways, Caerphilly.

The case was heard at Newport Magistrates’ Court on Thursday November 24. Davies did not attend and the case, under the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996, was proven in her absence.

She was ordered to pay a £200 fine, together with £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection said: “I hope that prosecutions such as this one will act as a deterrent to the small minority of people who still feel it is acceptable to behave in this manner that it will not be tolerated. Where individuals fail to pay their fixed penalty notices, we pursue the case through the courts without exception.”
