Hundreds of people will are due to take part in this year’s annual River of Light parade through Caerphilly town centre.

People have been busy making lanterns at weekend workshops at Caerphilly Leisure Centre this month ready for Thursday’s main event.

The parade starts at the Caerphilly train station Park and Ride at 6.30pm. Accompanied by samba drumming, dancing, costumed performers, giant sculptures and lots more, participants will weave their way through Caerphilly town centre, before reaching the finish point on Crescent Road.

A spectacular fireworks display against the backdrop of the magnificent Caerphilly Castle will provide the finale to the event.

Street Stars from Capital FM will also be out and about in the town centre on Thursday evening, and will be playing games with prizes aplenty to be won.

The River of Light Lantern Parade in Caerphilly is the finale of a busy events programme in Caerphilly County Borough and a busy lantern parade programme, with events taking place in Blackwood, Aberbargoed, Risca and Gelligaer.
