Foster carers needed in Caerphilly County Borough

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:17, Thursday December 22nd, 2011.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has appealed for more people to become foster carers.

It is one of 15 local authorities to have joined the Wales Fostering 10+ Campaign to help promote the need for foster carers for youngster aged ten and over.

Cllr Judith Pritchard, cabinet member for social services said: “Fostering is a demanding but worthwhile and fulfilling career. If offers immeasurable value to the lives of young people who need guidance and support as they approach their adult years.”

Foster carers are welcome from all backgrounds, irrespective of race, religion, sexuality, age or marital status.

Local foster carers Mark and Dawn Morgan said: “By becoming foster carers, we have grown both as individuals and as a family, by taking advantage of the excellent training that is made available to us, the support of other foster carers and also from just being a family sharing the experiences we have together.”

Caerphilly Council provides its foster carers with ongoing support and training, financial assistance to cover the cost of looking after a child as well as financial payment for their time and skills.
