Councillors have agreed to spend an extra £1 million on Caerphilly County Borough’s roads.
At a meeting of full council on Tuesday January 31, members agreed plans to spend £1.05m on a range of resurfacing schemes.
A report presented to the meeting identified more than 70 additional sites that will benefit from resurfacing works in communities across the whole county borough.
The report said that severe winters experienced over recent years had taken their toll on the highway network across the UK.
The Welsh Government, together with Caerphilly County Borough Council have put additional funding into fixing potholes and highway resurfacing works over the last two financial years and significant improvements have already been made to date.
Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for transportation said: “This latest investment will bring even more benefits to our communities and further enhance our biggest asset, the highways network, for motorists and pedestrians alike.
“This huge additional investment clearly shows our commitment to ensuring our roads are maintained to the highest possible standard.”
The £1.05m investment will be funded by a recent Welsh Government grant award, together with savings achieved by the council in the delivery of previously approved revenue and capital programmes of work.
