Arriva Trains Wales drivers’ strike called off

A planned train drivers’ strike, due to be held on Friday and Saturday has been called off.

The disruption, which would have clashed with the Wales vs New Zealand rugby match on Saturday, was called off after talks between Arriva Trains Wales and the ASLEF and RMT trade unions.

It is the second time a planned strike has been called off. Drivers had been due to stage the first 24 hour walkout over pay last Friday but successful talks averted the industrial action.

A statement from ASLEF said: “Proposed industrial action this weekend – 26 and 27 November – has been suspended by the train drivers’ union ASLEF.

“This follows a series of intense negotiations between the union and Arriva Trains Wales at which an agreement was reached which will be examined by the union’s executive committee on Monday November 29.

“If the executive approves the terms reached by the negotating team, the offer will be put to a ballot of the union’s 478 train driver members in the company.”
