The Chairman of Caerphilly Business Forum has welcomed the challenge faced by the Welsh Assembly Government in the face of a £860m spending cut.
Andrew Diplock, who is also commercial director of Ystrad Mynach-based UES, said: “Given WAG’s £860m spending cut, it is clear that difficult decisions needed to be made for the new budget, with limited resources. We are glad to see however a continued commitment to a sustainable environment in Wales.
“We still believe there are high levels of waste and inefficiency particularly within utility and energy supply costs for many public sector organisations, which impact on this budget. Indeed we have seen first-hand how public sector organisations can overspend by having an uncoordinated and inconsistent approach to energy management.
“But there is no need for it. Large corporations have similar challenges to the public sector but businesses are often more open in their approach – more proactive in identifying such problems and they don’t hesitate to sort them out. That is why we are delighted WAG has mentioned they are seeking to develop new, more effective and more efficient ways of working with private sector partners to deliver services.”
