Principality building society to celebrate 150th anniversary

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 12:00, Monday November 22nd, 2010.

Caerphilly town’s branch of the Principality is to celebrate the building society’s 150th anniversary on Wednesday December 1 with a special party.

Principality Building Society was established in Cardiff’s Church Street in 1860, when the population of the Welsh Capital was just 32,954.

In 1975, after 115 years, Principality opened its Caerphilly branch, which today serves more than 8,000 local customers.

To mark the occasion staff at the Caerphilly branch are inviting residents to join the celebration next Wednesday when branch manager Andrew McGill will cut the cake at 11am.

Children who visit the branch on December 1 will be able to get their hands on a limited edition, Dylan the Dragon money box, designed to commemorate the anniversary.

Mr McGill said: “Since 1860, it has been Principality’s aim to help the people of Wales save money and build their own homes and after 150 years, our aim remains the same today. We want to say a big thank you to our members, the people of Caerphilly, in our special anniversary year, and we hope that the local community will accept our invitation to join the celebration.”
