UPDATE: Bedwas Workmen’s Hall wins public vote.

Public voting has opened for a £40,000 Lottery bid to refurbish Bedwas Workman’s Hall.

Volunteers who run the hall are bidding for £40,000 from the Big Lottery Peoples Millions programme.

As part of the scheme community projects go head-to-head in a public vote for the cash.

To vote for Bedwas Workmen’s Hall call 08716268115.

The Bedwas project, which will be featured on ITV1 Wales tonight at 6pm, is going up against a rival bid from the Cynon Valley.

Built in 1923, the hall’s construction, on Newport Road, Bedwas, was funded by contributions from miners, public funds and donations from charities.

Derek Havard, who is a community councillor in Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen, said: “The decision will be down to a public telephone vote so we are asking for your kind support.

“If we are successful we believe that this will be the start of much bigger improvement for the hall so that we can make it a first-class arts facility which will be available for all to enjoy.”

To vote for Bedwas Workmen’s Hall call 08716268115. Lines close at midnight tonight (November 24).

Calls cost 10p from a BT landline, mobiles cost more and you can ring up to ten times from each phone.
