Volunteers needed to become local health champions

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 17:00, Monday February 27th, 2012.

Volunteers are being sought to become new local health champions for Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Community Health Champions will help people to understand the barrage of official health information, access services and tackle health issues affecting their local community.

Councillor Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection welcomed the new scheme.

He said: “It is fantastic to see the local community encouraging each other to lead healthier lifestyles. The scheme will offer real opportunities for those involved to positively impact their communities.”

Anyone can volunteer and all Community Health Champions will receive free training, with the opportunity to gain a qualification, helping to improve employment prospects, as well as becoming part of a network of people that are inspiring others to lead healthier lifestyles.
