BBC Proms in the Park to return to Caerphilly this year

BBC Wales has announced that Proms in the Park 2012 will be returning to Caerphilly town this year, after the 2011 event was washed out by the rain.

Torrential rain meant last year’s concert in September – the first to be held in Caerphilly – could not go ahead as planned at the Owain Glynd&#373r Playing Fields.

The BBC has announced it will hold this year’s concert on Saturday September 8 in partnership with Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Rhodri Talfan Davies, BBC Cymru Wales Director, said: “BBC Proms in the Park is an important occasion in our diary and I’m pleased that it will take place in the shadow of Caerphilly’s magnificent medieval castle.

“The BBC National Orchestra of Wales performs across Wales and beyond, and I’m certain they will light up the stage with a memorable evening of music. We’ll be crossing our fingers for fine weather this year.”

Anthony O’Sullivan, Chief Executive of Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “We are honoured to have the opportunity to once again host this prestigious musical event here in Caerphilly. I am confident that visitors to the BBC Proms in the Park will receive a very warm Caerphilly welcome this year.”

The full line-up of artists and presenters will be announced over the next few months.
