UPDATE: Hope for BBC Proms in the Park to return to Caerphilly in 2012

The BBC Proms in the Park in Caerphilly has been called off due to heavy rain.

With just 40 minutes before it was due to begin at 7.30pm, the heavens opened.

A spokesman for Caerphilly County Borough Council said:”We regret that this evening’s BBC proms in the park in Caerphilly has been cancelled.”

The decision by BBC Wales and the council was made on health and safety grounds after the weather conditions damaged the stage and knocked out a generator.

People seeking refunds are asked to contact the Visit Caerphilly Centre for a full refund.

More information will be on the council’s website from 10am on Monday.
