BBC Wales has announced that Proms in the Park will be returning to Caerphilly town for 2013.

It has announced it will hold this year’s concert on Saturday September 7 in partnership with Caerphilly County Borough Council at the Owain Glynd&#373r Playing Fields. It is the third time the event will be hosted by Caerphilly, although 2011’s concert was cancelled after torrential rain.

Rhodri Talfan Davies, BBC Cymru Wales Director, said: “BBC Proms in the Park is a great opportunity for people to join together across the UK and enjoy a magical evening of music. Following the success of BBC Proms in the Park in Caerphilly last year we very much look forward to returning for another captivating evening of music led by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and enjoyed by both the audience on the evening and viewers at home.”

The event, one of many held across the country, marks the last night of the BBC’s Proms season.

Cllr Harry Andrews, leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be welcoming this prestigious event back to Caerphilly for the third year running. Last year’s event was such a fantastic success – the huge turnout and the enthusiasm of the crowd helped create a truly uplifting atmosphere and I am confident that this year’s event will be just as impressive.”

The evening will end with fireworks and the traditional Last Night medley of sing-a-long numbers.

The full line-up of artists and presenters will be announced over the next few months.
