The owner of several care homes in Caerphilly County Borough which lost £300 million in six months is to withhold rent in a bid to stay in business.

Last week the future of eight homes was thrown into doubt as owner Southern Cross posted the huge losses.

Healthcare specialists warned on Wednesday that Southern Cross could collapse within months if it failed to renegotiate its rent payments to landlords and finances with the banks.

The homes are: Abermill in Abertridwr, Bargoed, Church View in Caerphilly town, Parklands in Bedwas, Trafalgar Park in Nelson, Valley View in Cefn Hengoed, Mill View House in Newbridge, and White Rose in New Tredegar.
