Pupils from Ystrad Mynach Primary School got out and enjoyed the sun at their annual sports day last week.

Sport Caerphilly, the council’s sports department, and young volunteers from Lewis Girls School and Lewis School Pengam helped the primary school to run the event on Monday July 8, with infants competing in the morning and the junior competition taking place in the afternoon.

With an obstacle relay, javelin throwing, long jump, tennis ball shot put, hurdles and sprints there was opportunity for every child to shine in their chosen sporting event.

Cllr Dave Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “Congratulations to all the children who took part in this sports day. I am proud that Sport Caerphilly was able to assist the school to put on this wonderful event, encouraging children, and also their parents, to live healthier and more active lives.”

The overall win for the day went to Yellow House, who after a close competition throughout the event, lifted the house cup in victory.

Mr Jonathan Lloyd, Headteacher at Ystrad Mynach Priamry School, said: “Our sports day was a fantastic day based on all being included while also allowing children to compete.

“We were thrilled by the positivity of our parents and spectators who as normal were supportive of all children. We would like to thank Sports Caerphilly who enabled the event to happen while also thanking our main sponsor of the day ASDA. A fabulous day and the pupils loved it.”
