Cyclist killed in Newbridge minibus collision named

A cyclist killed in a collision with a minibus has been named by police.

Owain Richard James, 30, from Oakdale, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales Cardiff with serious injuries following Sunday’s incident but later died.

Mr James’ family have paid tribute through a statement issued by Gwent Police.

They said: “Owain was a dearly loved son, brother and uncle and will be greatly missed by family and friends who would like to left alone to grieve at this time.”

The cyclist and minibus were travelling in the same direction on the A472 towards Newbridge when the incident happened at around 8.05pm.

A 43-year-old man, who was the driver of the minibus, was left uninjured and was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving. He has been released pending further inquiries.

There were two other people in the minibus at the time of the incident and they were also uninjured.
