Save the Children Gala Concert raises £900

The Caerphilly branch of Save the Children raised almost £900 during a gala concert celebrating 60 years of fundraising.

The evening, held last month at St Helens Church, featured the Aber Valley Male Voice Choir and Cwrt Rawlin School Choir.

Despite the evening being a celebration, there was also a sad note with the recent passing of two former chairs, Anne Collins and Marilyn Rees in the past month.

Lindsay Whittle AM also made an emotional tribute to Anne Collins’ work, and Jessica Evans, Commmunity Fund raiser for Wales at Save the Children, also made a tribute to Marilyn who had served 32 years in the Caerphilly Branch.

A cheque for £100 from Caerphilly`s twin town in Britanny, France, was presented by Colin Mann on behalf of the Twinning Association.

Caerphilly Branch secretary Irene Bowen said: “We are so grateful to the marvellous generosity of the Aber Valley Male Voice Choir and the Cwrt Rawlin School Choir who gave their services free, as well as St Helens Church who provided a fantastic venue for the evening.

“The Caerphilly Branch is going from strength to strength and we look forward to holding more successful events in the next 12 months.”

Save the Children meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at the Twyn Community Centre from September. For more information, contact the branch on 02920864979.
