Youngsters are set to benefit from a pot of £100,000 to be spent on youth services in communities across Caerphilly County Borough.

After the completion of a project to relocate Blackwood Youth Centre to the Blackwood Comprehensive site following a fire at the former building, £130,000 remains.

At a meeting on Tuesday July 16, councillors was agreed to use £100,000 of the money to support Youth Service provision across the county borough.

The additional £30,000 will be used to complete resurfacing and associated drainage works of a basketball court area for the facility in Blackwood.

Cllr Rhianon Passmore, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, commented: “It is important that all young people in Caerphilly County Borough have access to services and facilities, and therefore I wholeheartedly agree that this money should be made available for projects in other communities across the county borough, providing opportunities for all our young residents.”

The Blackwood Youth Centre development has provided both the school and the local community with many facilities, which add to the diverse range of adult, youth and community facilities which were already available on the school site.
