Global ICT firm brings new service centre to Nantgarw

Business, News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:43, Monday August 5th, 2013.

A technology company has created 20 new jobs and an apprentice scheme with the help of a £438,000 Welsh Government grant.

Logicalis has moved its UK Managed Services Centre from Malaysia to Nantgarw.

The centre will provide 24/7 technical services to hundreds of blue-chip UK businesses an was officially opened on August 1 by Minister for Economy, Science and Transport Edwina Hart.

Since first opening its Nantgarw office in 2007, Logicalis has grown its regional workforce from under ten to 80.

The decision to bring its managed services to Wales will bring that number to 100.

Edwina Hart said: “Bringing a technology services operation from Malaysia to Wales is a great testament to the opportunity and skill-sets Wales can offer global enterprises today and sends out a strong message to the industry. It is also a reflection of the success of their Welsh operation and the high calibre of staff they have been able to recruit locally.

“Logicalis is a leading UK Systems Integrator and managed service provider and operates in one of our priority economic sectors and I welcome the decision to bring this new centre to Nantgarw.

“Since opening in Wales Logicalis has continued to expand and invest, creating a significant number of high skilled technical jobs and I am pleased the Welsh Government was able to support this latest investment.”

According to Logicalis UK Managing Director Mark Starkey, Nantgarw was the perfect location for the UK service centre.
He said: “It was an obvious choice. Wales offers the depth of skills, professionalism and enthusiasm for innovation that we need to design and deliver high quality IT services to our customers right across the UK.

“Leveraging the current depth of ICT skills in Wales we will export services to all areas of the UK, improving the service levels we provide our customers.

“We look forward to further developing this through the apprentice scheme; playing our part in building a thriving and competitive digital economy in Wales.”
