Concerns over future of GP surgery in Trinant

Concerns have been expressed over the future of a GP surgery in Trinant.

Issues over the condition of Trinant Medical Centre, and difficulties in attracting GPs to cover the practice, have led to its sudden closure at times, with patients having to travel to Abertillery.

Cllr Keith Lloyd said the Trinant Community First Partnership had received a letter from the health board which told of ongoing problems, including a poor state of repairs and sewerage issues.

He said: “Over many years because of the problem of finding doctors to cover the practice, and the poor state of the building, the surgery is often closed.

“Patients have to travel to the main practice at Abernant Surgery, Abertillery.
“I wrote a letter to Aneurin Bevan Health Board in March, expressing my concerns about the deterioration of the practice at the surgery.

“Patients are concerned that the surgery has been closed on a number of occasions. One person visited the surgery for an afternoon appointment to find it closed.

Cllr Lloyd, who lives in Trinant, added: “Patients are asked to visit the main surgery at Abertillery. But this is completely unacceptable.”

A spokesman for Aneurin Bevan Health Board said it had not received an application to close the practice.”

In the space of four weeks I have finished work early twice as I had Tuesday afternoon appointments. When I got there only a receptionist was there, all appointmenst are cancelled I was told.

The second appointment that never happened, was to review the effectiveness or problems of strong painkillers she had subscribed me prior to me going on holidays for two weeks…..this never took place.
