Gwent police has launched a murder enquiry following the death of a baby boy in the Nelson area.
Officers received a call to an address in Nelson at 9.15pm on Friday August 16 reporting a baby not breathing.
The six-week old baby boy, understood to be from the Fairwater area in Cardiff, was taken to the Prince Charles Hospital and transferred to the Heath Hospital where he subsequently died this afternoon.
A 32-year-old man from the Nelson area was arrested and charged with assault.
Michael Pearce appeared in Caerphilly Magistrates’ Court yesterday and was remanded into custody to appear at Newport Crown Court on August 29.
