Police appeal after Caerphilly car theft

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:00, Friday August 23rd, 2013.

Police would like to speak to these two men (pictured above) in connection with the theft of a vehicle from outside the Spar Store, in Mill Road, Caerphilly town.

The theft took place at approximately 9.30pm on Saturday August 3. The vehicle, a blue Vauxhall Zafira, registration number CP53 JXY, was parked outside the store at the time of the theft. Anyone with information should call Gwent Police on 101 and quote log number 566 3/8/13

Yet another crime happens in Caerphilly. I should be elected as the Home Secretary. I would come down on all of these criminals so hard, and my policies regarding them would be so draconian that they would be scared of the police and jail.

Crime happens in Caerphilly all the time.

Elected as Home Secretary? Not a chance, there has not been a hang em flog em one for over fifty years, and there wont be one aging, so that`s another job you wont get Dean.

You would make these people who borrowed this car scared of the police and Jail? No chance of that either Dean, do you honestly think there are people who join the police force to `scare` the public into legal submission?, Russia, china, some part of the deep south of America, other banana republics. You are not Zimbabwean and a supporter of

Robert Mugabe by any chance are you?. And, as for the jail issues, i.e. `so draconian that inmates would be `scared` of it`, you can forget that one too, they are sent there AS punishment, not FOR punishment, and for the record that `policy` was enacted over a hundred years ago so catch up boy for goodness sake.

I know what the modern world is like Jokio. I would campaign to change it though. I would make the jail a place for punishment not a punishment in itself. Obviously they wouldn't be tortured but they would be forced to do hard, manual Labour for the bare minimum amount of food to stay alive. Jails would become an unpaid version of the workhouse.

Dean, whilst I have great empathy with your draconian ideals, it can be seen to be a failure. The death sentence in the U S has done absolutely nothing to deter murders, sadly.

I beg to differ. Per capita murder rates in some states with the death penalty are lower than they are in Britain. Those states have guns too which will increase murder rates.

    Jeff, check the statistics first!

For the last 10 years, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire and Hawaii all have LESS murders per 100,000 people than England and Wales. It's well documented too.

Dean, you have a problem. In many instances your comments on this website have proven to be highly exaggerated. The homicide rate in the US is far higher than that in countries where there is no death sentence. A few States in the US offer an exception but, overall, there is stark evidence that the death penalty is not only ineffective, it also causes the execution of innocent people.

  • A new health board initiative is changing the way menopause care is delivered in GP surgeries across Gwent. The Menopause Champions Project, introduced in June this year by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, aims to give patients going through menopause better access to informed and consistent support from their local practice teams. The scheme was developed by Dr Jayne Forrester-Paton, a menopause and sexual and reproductive health specialist, alongside Dr Michelle Olver, clinical lead of the menopause team, and nurse consultant Nikki Noble. Together, they set out to equip GPs and practice nurses with up-to-date knowledge and practical tools to improve care. So far, 41 GP practices in the region now have a trained “Menopause Champion” — a clinician who can provide advice and guidance on both hormonal and non-hormonal treatment options. These champions are backed by a network of colleagues and specialists to help them stay confident in managing more complex cases. Dr Forrester-Paton said the project had already made a strong start and would continue to grow: “We are proud of how successful this project has been so far and will continue to grow, with plans to expand educational sessions for clinicians, offer virtual case discussions to improve care for complex menopause cases and strengthen the collaboration between primary care and specialist menopause services. “The Menopause Champions Project is helping to ensure that menopause is treated with the same care and attention as any other health issue, giving patients the support they need, when they need it.”
