A Rhymney man has been jailed for two-and-a-half years after attempting to rob a Post Office armed with a hammer.
Rory Thomas, 20, of Heol Aneurin Bevan, Rhymney, walked into Phillipstown Post Office, near New Tredegar, on June 8 this year and demanded money.
He threatened the postmaster while armed with a claw hammer, but eventually left empty-handed.
Thomas was arrested by police shortly afterwards at a nearby house.
He appeared before Cardiff Crown Court on August 15 and admitted attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon. He was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in custody.
