An award-winning Blackwood café has expanded with a new branch in Cardiff.

Esther and George Apoussidis, the husband and wife team behind Coffee Continental, have opened its second branch in the Castle Arcade in Cardiff’s city centre.

George, who is Greek, and Esther, who was born to a Welsh father and German mother, have run the hugely popular Blackwood café in the Market Place Shopping Centre since it opened in September 2010.

In 2011, Esther won Caerphilly Business Forum’s Women in Business Award.

She said: “We identified a gap in the market in Cardiff for somewhere serving truly unusual speciality cakes, as well as a comprehensive range of coffee and hot chocolate inspired by the Austrian coffee houses.”
