Former Wales captain Ryan Jones joined pupils at Trinity Fields Special School in Ystrad Mynach for a celebratory rugby tournament.

The Disability Six Nations, which gets disabled children involved in rugby, celebrated its tenth anniversary on March 20.

Almost 200 children from schools across South East Wales, and from as far afield as Brecon and Bridgend, experienced the thrills of rugby and were able to develop new skills, make new friends and meet Welsh international players Richie Rees and Ryan Jones.

Ryan, a longtime supporter of the annual event,  said: “I’ve been very fortunate to be part of this for nine years, not only do these guys look forward to it, but so do I.

“To come here and see the enjoyment, the pure fun factor these kids have, because it really is rugby for all. It has grown year on year and I hope it continues to do so.”

Caerphilly County Borough Council have organised the Disability Six Nations tournament for  ten consecutive years, with thousands of disabled children benefiting from the experience.

Cllr Dave Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “Events such as this are truly what we at Caerphilly feel sport should be about; inclusive, exciting and a great way of encouraging everyone to get active.”
