Caerphilly County Borough technology companies shortlisted for ESTnet Awards 2014

Three technology companies based in Caerphilly County Borough have been nominated for a prestigious award celebrating excellence in the electronics and software technologies industry in Wales.

Contract electronics manufacturer Axiom Manufacturing Services, defence company General Dynamics UK and lead generation agency Leopard Digital have all been revealed as finalists for the ESTnet Awards 2014.

Axiom, based in Newbridge, is nominated for Supplier of the Year, Oakdale’s General Dynamics UK is shortlisted for Product of the Year while Caerphilly town’s Leopard Digital is in the running for Start-up Company of the Year.

General Dynamics UK has been nominated for its Virtual Advanced Synthetic Trainer (VAST) – a system which models crowds at large indoor and outdoor events to help plan public safety.

Steve Rowbotham, Chief Operating Officer at General Dynamics UK, said: “We are delighted to be nominated in this category for the second year in a row, having won the award last year.

“This recognition is a fitting testament to the hard work of our innovative employees and the cutting-edge research and development we undertake here, supported by the Welsh Government, in creating state-of-the-art products that add capability to the solutions we offer.”

The ESTnet Awards celebrate the innovation that exists in Wales and recognise the contribution that the vibrant technology sector makes to the Welsh economy.

Avril Lewis, managing director of ESTnet, said: “There is a real wealth of talent in the industry in Wales, and we have a great opportunity with the ESTnet Awards programme to further raise the profile of the sector and celebrate its key achievements.

“The three companies highlight the growing number of technology businesses leading the way through innovative products and services to not only national, but internationally.”

The awards will take place at Cardiff’s Swalex Stadium on on March 27.
