Gwent Police are appealing for information after an assault in Newbridge that left a woman needing hospital treatment.

The assault took place at around 3pm yesterday, Wednesday April 2, on Yewtree Road, off North Road, Newbridge.

The 27-year-old victim, who is from the local area, suffered a small cut to her neck and a broken finger and went to the Royal Gwent Hospital for treatment.

Police described the man who attacked her as a white, in his early 20s and about 5ft 5in or 5ft 6in six tall.

He is described as thick set with black short cropped hair and a clean appearance.

He was wearing a bright white jacket, jeans, trainers, and had a Liverpool scarf hanging from his waist down the back of his legs.

He approached the woman, assaulted her, then bent down to pick up whatever caused the injury to her neck and walked off.

Anyone with information is asked to call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log number 257 2/4/14.

Apparently there was no police presence this morning near the school to reassure the frightened children. It is not good enough!

I told Ian Johnston my views a couple of months ago that we never see any policemen or women walking around.

Now they are selling the police station. Shape up!
