Three Caerphilly Borough-based companies have been honoured at a top awards ceremony to celebrate excellence in the electronics and software technologies industry in Wales.

All were recognised at the annual ESTnet Awards at Cardiff’s Swalec Stadium on March 27.

Newbridge-based Axiom Manufacturing Services, which designs and makes components and sub-assemblies for electronics manufacturers, took the Supplier of the Year title while Oakdale-based defence manufacturer General Dynamics UK won the Innovative Product of the Year title for its Virtual Advanced Synthetic Trainer – a crowd modelling system to help plan public safety.

Caerphilly-based lead generation company Leopard Digital, which uses social media for marketing purposes, was named Start Up of the Year.

David Davies of Axiom said: “It means a great deal just to be nominated, through our partnership with Airbus Defence & Space, we’ve established a supply chain that has the capabilities and processes in place to compete in a global market. This award highlights exactly what can be achieved by companies in Wales collaborating to deliver world class solutions.”

Leopard Digital MD, Ed Brooks: “We’re absolutely delighted to have won the prestigious EstNet Start Up of the Year award. Getting this external recognition is a real boost for the team and will serve as a platform to continue growing the business.”

Rob Rolley, Technology Director at General Dynamics UK, said the company was delighted to win the Product of the Year prize for the second year running.

He added: “It is testament to the continued hard work of our R&D team here in Wales. They consistently deliver cutting-edge products, including VAST.”

Business minister Edwina Hart AM, congratulated the award recipients and finalists and said they had once again underlined the extent of world class technology-led activity taking place in Wales.

The ESTnet, set up in 2011, is a network of technology enterprises designed to provide a collaborative environment for tech companies.
