New A-board rules for Caerphilly businesses approved by council

Businesses in Caerphilly County Borough must sign up to a new council advertising code to display A-boards

Caerphilly Observer previously reported that a consultation was taking place that could result in businesses being charged to sign up to the code and for non compliance.

The proposals have now been approved and under the new rules, which are in-line with the 1980 Highways Act, the council will charge businesses £25 for use of an A-board. The local authority estimates this could bring in around £10,000 worth of revenue.

Cllr Tom Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways, Transportation and Engineering, said: “In such harsh economic times, there is a need to allow businesses to take advantage of promotional activities and opportunities, and we do not want to hinder this. But as Highways authority we also have a responsibility to ensure the safety and accessibility of others.

“This code of compliance strikes a fair balance, and ensures a consistent approach to any advertising on the highway and makes the highway environment safer for its users.”
