A Blackwood burglar who stole £30,000 worth of sentimental jewellery from an elderly widow on Christmas Eve has been sent to prison.

Jamie Thomas stole the jewellery, given to the victim by her husband before his death, on December 24 last year and also took bank cards that he used at cash points locally.

£20,000 worth of the jewellery has still not been recovered.

Thomas broke into another house in Blackwood on November 18 2013, stealing low value goods from an elderly couple, leaving a lasting impact on the victims according to Gwent Police.

He was sentenced to four years an two months in prison at Cardiff Crown Court on June 27.
