Argoed cannibal murder victim Cerys Marie Yemm was killed by “sharp force trauma to the face and neck”, an inquest has been told.

Gwent Police Detective Superintendent William Davies told the inquest at Newport Coroner’s Court today, November 21, that Miss Yemm’s body was found on the floor of a room in the Sirhowy Arms Hotel in Argoed on November 6.

He said police were called at 1.23am and Miss Yemm was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Miss Yemm’s attacker Matthew Williams, 34, was shot with a taser by police, resulting in his death.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission are continuing their investigation.

Mr Davies told the inquest: “Matthew was arrested and detained but died a short time later.

“A Home Office pathologist has conducted a post mortem examination of Cerys’ body.

“His original findings were Miss Yemm died of sharp force trauma to the face and neck.”

Asked by Senior Coroner David Bowen, Mr Davies raised no objection the the victim’s body being released to her family.

Mr Bowen adjourned the inquest until April 3 in order for further investigations to be carried out.

He said he wished to minimise the impact of the proceedings on Miss Yemm’s family but that should not hinder a thorough inquiry into the events of her death.
