Hundreds of people welcomed the start of Christmas, as Caerphilly Town’s Christmas lights were switched on by Santa Claus himself.
Pupils from Twyn School, Plas-Y-Felin primary School and Ysgol Gymraeg Caerffili sang carols to entertain the crowd on Friday November 21.
The town will play host to a Christmas fayre on December 13 and 14, with numerous other events taking place across Caerphilly County Borough.
Meanwhile, a new council-backed scheme to give shoppers money off their Christmas shopping has been launched.
Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Town Centre Management team has joined forces with retailers across the county borough to unveil a special ‘Choose the High Street @ Christmas’ discount voucher booklet scheme, which offers shoppers almost 100 discounts across over 70 stores throughout December.

The voucher booklet, which can be picked up from selected visitor attractions as well as libraries and customer service centres, can be used between Monday December 1 and Wednesday December 24.
Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development joined ‘Santa’ and Reception class pupils from Twyn Primary School at Caerphilly Library recently to officially launch the scheme.
Cllr James said: “The pre-Christmas trading period is a crucial time for retailers, and through this campaign we are really encouraging residents and indeed visitors to our county borough to utilise our unique town centres. In doing so, they can make use of this excellent voucher booklet scheme and grab some real bargains in over 70 different stores.
“This scheme, together with the large programme of festive events we have planned for our town centres over the pre-Christmas period, I hope will go a long way in supporting our traders, and attracting more people to sample the unique offering in our county borough’s town centres.”
A full list of retailers and their festive discounts and offers can also be found at on Caerphilly Council’s website.
