Police appeal after five men walk off without paying taxi fare in Caerphilly town

News | | Published: 12:00, Thursday December 11th, 2014.

Police are appealing for information to trace five men who refused to pay for their taxi from Cardiff to Caerphilly town.

The men were picked up from Cardiff City Centre on November 8 and were driven to Caerphilly town centre where they refused to pay the fare. The men, according to Gwent Police, got out of the vehicle and walked up Caerphilly Road, turning right onto Clive Road.

One of the men is described as being white, about 6ft tall and of large or stocky build. He had long white spiky hair with a centre parting and was aged 50 to 55 years old. He was wearing a light-coloured top and grey trousers.

Another of the group is described as being white, around 6ft tall and of large build. He was approximately 40-years-old and had dark hair and a beard. He wore a long dark coat.

Anyone with information can call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log 570 08/11/14.

It would be helpful to know what fare the taxi firm was charging. While it is the law that a contract must be honoured, and a contract is is what is entered into when people agree to use a taxi, I have heard some horror stories about Cardiff taxi firms. These include lone women being charged £50 for an 8 mile run from Cardiff.
