River of Light brightens up Caerphilly town centre

More than 500 residents donned their wellies and raincoats and braved the rain to take part in this year’s River of Light Lantern Parade.

Families descended on Caerphilly town centre on Thursday December 18 to take part in the River of Light lantern parade, which saw hundreds of people cascade through the town centre for the popular annual event.

This year’s event was themed around the Disney film Frozen and participants who set off on the parade from Caerphilly railway station were joined by characters Anna, Elsa and Olaf from the box office hit en-route to Caerphilly Castle, where the parade came to a colourful conclusion with a magical fireworks display.

Participants were also joined by samba dancers and jazz bands, creating an explosion of noise and colour as the procession made its way through the town centre.

The River of Light lantern parade was the finale of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Christmas events programme the year.
