News | | Published: 14:20, Monday February 9th, 2015.

Two people have been arrested following an armed robbery at Graig-Y-Rhacca post office yesterday, Sunday February 8.

Gwent Police said two men entered the post office at around 11.20am and demanded cash from the Postmaster. They were holding what is believed to have been a firearm.

When they were told the police were being called they left the premises. The victim was left shaken but unharmed.

A 16-year-old and a 21-year-old from the local area were arrested on suspicion of robbery and remain in police custody at this time.

Inspector Gareth Jones said: “On behalf of the investigation team and officers involved in this inquiry I would like to thank the community of Graig y Rhacca for the support they have given throughout our inquiries in the local area yesterday, and our continuing investigation today.

“An incident of this kind can greatly affect a small community, and the spirit shown by local residents who have pulled together and provided valuable information leading to quick arrests has been greatly appreciated.”

Anyone with information about the robbery can call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log 182 08/02/15.
