A formerly vacant business premises in Newbridge has been given a new lease of life thanks to an EU-backed grant scheme.

A local business owner successfully applied for funding from Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Building Improvement Grant scheme to refurbish the vacant premises on Victoria Terrace near the town’s High Street.

It wasn’t long before he had a tenant keen to move into the premises – Chic Boutique beauty salon run by Siân Perry.

The property was refurbished by Kevin Matthews, who runs Chedar Property Maintenance Services.

The Building Improvement Grant scheme, which is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through Welsh Government, offers financial support of up to 75%.

It has attracted significant interest from businesses in Bargoed and Newbridge.

Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development, said: “It is wonderful to see a premises which was previously vacant occupied once again and renovated to such a high standard.

“The Building Improvement Grant scheme is a key element of our wider Newbridge Regeneration Programme, and it is pleasing that it’s having such a positive impact, not only in helping local businesses start up and grow but also in the regeneration of our town centres.”
